Ontario Nature, alongside our Nature Network of over 150 community-based groups, provincial and national partners, collectively strive to protect and restore nature for all species and future generations. Within Ontario, we represent over 130,000 members and supporters.

Earlier this year, the Government of Ontario officially repealed the Endangered Species Act, 2007, replacing it with the Species Conservation Act that was part of Bill 5, which passed in June 2025. The Species Conservation Act delists migratory birds and aquatic species, arguing protections were duplicative of federal legislation. This assertion ignores the tendency of the federal government to limit the scope of the Species at Risk Act to federal lands, as is the case with the proposed CHPR.
