Ontario Rivers Alliance has lots to talk about thanks to MEC – Press Release

Ontario Rivers Alliance (ORA) is very excited to announce its new look and website, and a Strategic Plan that provides a stronger focus to engage, advocate, educate and encourage local stewardship and action. This was all made possible through a $35,000 capacity building grant from Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC).

“We are very grateful to MEC for supporting our organization in building a strong foundation to better serve our membership and to more effectively protect, conserve and restore Ontario rivers,” said ORA Chair Linda Heron.

This grant has allowed ORA to undertake several key initiatives that include a Strategic Plan, rebranding, a new website, financial planning, and a quarterly E-Newsletter. “We would like to thank all those people and organizations that took part in our survey and consultations, as well as Studio 123 for our dynamic website and branding, and the Social Planning Council Sudbury for their enthusiastic professionalism that resulted in a strong and comprehensive Strategic Plan”, said Linda.

We invite the public to visit our new website at http://OntarioRiversAlliance.ca to check out our Blog and Rivers at Risk map to see what challenges Ontario rivers are facing, and what ORA has been doing to actively address them. You can also visit our “Take Action” page to see how you can help, and to sign-up for our E-News mailing list.

Local individuals, groups and organizations are at the heart of ORA, and there are many rivers that are not currently represented. You can either join an existing group, or if none exists you can become a steward for your favourite river, lake or wetland. Just contact ORA at info@OntarioRiversAlliance.ca to let us know of your interest.

Ontario Rivers Alliance is a Not-for-Profit grassroots organization with a focus on all issues affecting our freshwater, and the “life” it supports. ORA has been working since 2011 to build a strong united voice to fulfill our mission through active engagement of a growing and diverse network of members, partners and volunteers across the Province.

Mountain Equipment Co-op is a Canadian consumers’ cooperative, which sells outdoor recreation gear and clothing exclusively to its members. MEC is notable for its commitment to environmental protection and other causes. Visit their website at: www.mec.ca
